DHEA

DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone) is a hormone produced by the adrenal glands and a precursor of estrogen, progesterone and testosterone. For many years it was believed that DHEA had no particular beneficial effects other than being a building block for the sex hormones until recently, when researches discovered that DHEA slowly declines as we age. It was believed that DHEA would be a good marker of aging itself. Since then several studies have shown the beneficial effects of DHEA on decreasing the risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer and increasing our overall well-being.

Most of the beneficial effects from DHEA arise from it's ability to stimulate the protein production within the cells resulting in cell repair and cell regeneration as well as an improvement in immune function.

DHEA Benefits include:

  • reduction of cardiovascular risk
  • rejuvenation of the immune system
  • restoration of sexual vitality and sex drive
  • improvement of erectile dysfunction in men
  • improvement of mood & well-being
  • decrease of cholesterol and body fat
  • improvement of energy & memory
  • improvement of depression & mood disorders
  • prevention of insomnia, osteoporosis, atherosclerosis
  • prevention diabetes and heart disease
  • pending FDA approval for Lupus treatment

Hormones: Normal vs Optimal

I went to medical school and residency training and learned my share about hormones.
